High-resolution MR neurography of diffuse peripheral nerve lesions.

چکیده
High-resolution MR imaging of peripheral nerves is becoming more common and practical with the increasing availability of 3T magnets. There are multiple reports of MR imaging of peripheral nerves in compression and entrapment neuropathies. However, there is a relative paucity of literature on MRN appearance of diffuse peripheral nerve lesions. We attempted to highlight the salient imaging features of myriad diffuse peripheral nerve disorders and imaging techniques for MRN. Using clinical and pathologically proved relevant examples, we present the MRN appearance of various types of diffuse peripheral nerve lesions, such as traumatic, inflammatory, infectious, hereditary, radiation-induced, neoplastic, and tumor variants.

Non-Invasive Targeted Peripheral Nerve Ablation Using 3D MR Neurography and MRI-Guided High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (MR-HIFU): Pilot Study in a Swine Model
PURPOSE Ultrasound (US)-guided high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) has been proposed for noninvasive treatment of neuropathic pain and has been investigated in in-vivo studies. However, ultrasound has important limitations regarding treatment guidance and temperature monitoring. Magnetic resonance (MR)-imaging guidance may overcome these limitations and MR-guided HIFU (MR-HIFU) has been us...
متن کاملMR Neurography – Diagnostic Criteria to Determine Lesions of Peripheral Nerves
Clinical examination and electrodiagnostic testing comprise the traditional methods of diagnostic investigation in peripheral nerve disease. These are excellent tools to assess function of peripheral nerves but can be limited in localizing visualization of peripheral nerves at the fascicular level – the fascicle being the first order subunit of a peripheral nerve. The major limitation of clinic...
متن کامل[High resolution (3 T) magnetic resonance neurography of the sciatic nerve].
Magnetic resonance (MR) neurography refers to a set of techniques that enable the structure of the peripheral nerves and nerve plexuses to be evaluated optimally. New two-dimensional and three-dimensional neurographic sequences, in particular in 3T scanners, achieve excellent contrast between the nerve and perineural structures. MR neurography makes it possible to distinguish between the normal...
متن کاملMR Neurography - Imaging Peripheral Nerves
MR imaging of peripheral nerves not only allows sensitive detection of peripheral nerve abnormalities but also displays high detail of regional anatomy and improves specificity of diagnosis. The use of MR imaging for diagnosis and evaluation of peripheral nervous system disorders was initially reported in the late 1980’s. Since then, expertise gained through experience over the last decade coup...
متن کاملNeurography - a new look at the peripheral nervous system
The advent of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) allowed a significant advance in the understanding and evaluation of the central nervous system. However, the peripheral nervous system (PNS)—nerves, ganglia, and roots—continued to be considered “difficult to assess” by radiologists(1). The PNS has been studied through invasive tests, such as electrodiagnostic studies and nerve biopsies, which cau...
